The Spa at the Retreat opens its doors

The Spa at the Retreat has opened in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon; one
of the 25 Wonders of the World, situated in a private inlet of
the UNESCO Global Geopark.

The subterranean Retreat Spa offers relaxation, rejuvenation
and exploration and takes full advantage of the Lagoon’s
revitalizing geothermal waters. Available to both overnight and
day guests, the Retreat Spa offers a steamroom built into the
lava rock, a cold well, in-water massages, bench massages and
beauty treatments.

“We’re proud to finally share the Retreat at Blue Lagoon
Iceland with the world,” says Grímur Sæmundsen, founder of Blue
Lagoon. “Our team and partners have worked extremely hard to
bring this luxury experience to life. Set in the centuries-old
lava, our spa offers guests an experience like no other in
Iceland.”

The spa journey involves the Blue Lagoon Ritual – an
exhilarating cycle of wellbeing where guests can cover their
bodies with mineral salt, silica, and algae. Exclusive to the
Retreat, the Ritual offers uses a spacious area of
interconnected chambers including the Retreat Lagoon, an
experience where the mineral-rich water flows through a
terraced concourse of lava.

The Retreat’s Spa Restaurant offers seasonal meals including
“Sushi Around Iceland”, shots of thyme and crowberry or algae
and smoothies based on skyr – an Icelandic dairy offering.

The 62-suite hotel sits on top of an 800-year-old, moss-covered
lava flow, encircled by the waters of the lagoon.
Floor-to-ceiling windows and “human-centric lighting” mimic the
phases of the sun.
